Summary of the final episode
The protagonist, Hikaru Shindo, has grown in the world of Go through his games with his rival, Akira Toya. In the final chapter, Hikaru overcomes the sadness of Sai’s disappearance and faces off against Akira. Hikaru focuses on the Go board, feeling that Sai’s soul is alive within him. Ultimately, Hikaru and Akira’s game becomes a wonderful match where they acknowledge each other’s skills. The story concludes by suggesting that Hikaru will continue on the path of Go as a professional player with Akira. And the story ends with a scene where Hikaru chases Sai’s soul and finds the phantom move he made.
Review of the final episode
The final chapter moved me with the sight of Hikaru overcoming the sadness of his farewell with Sai and living his life positively. The development where Sai lives on inside Hikaru made me feel the depth of their bond, which was really good. Even without a clear depiction of victory or defeat, the passion of Hikaru and Akira for Go was palpable, and it warmed my heart. It was a wonderful work that carefully depicted not only the fun of Go but also friendship and the encounters with a mentor in life.
